Who likes making cold calls?
Most sales people don’t, myself included, but it’s a necessary and effective tool for many. My sales coach always said, “You don’t have to like making cold calls, you just have to do them”.
Cold calls and cold emails have landed me new clients and candidates. They have taught me how to think on my feet, built my confidence and thickened my skin.
Here are some points to remember when making cold calls:
- Research before making your call. Know the decision maker, info about the company, their products, your competition etc.
- Have a list of questions ready.
- Shut up and listen.
- Don’t be robotic with a script. Be natural and conversational.
- Have a goal in mind e.g. Sale (obviously), Book a meeting, Names, etc.
- Have fun. Yes, you can.
