TUESDAY TIP: LINKEDIN

When searching for a new career, make sure you have a LinkedIn profile and that the positions and accomplishments listed on your resume match. Many recruiters and hiring managers review a candidate’s LinkedIn after receiving their resume to get more information and insight.

What makes a good LinkedIn profile? Here are a few key points to remember:

  • Profile picture. You need one. Don’t use the default avatar.
  • Use the introduction tag line to describe yourself.
  • Complete the profile summary. This is where LI gives you a chance to show your personality and provide details that your resume can not.
  • List recent work experiences and accomplishments but do not in the same format nor writing tone as your resume.
  • Upload documents, videos, files, etc.
  • Get recommendations end endorsements
  • Change your status to “Open to new opportunities” so that recruiters know that you are looking.
